Image
Photos of this ramble in October 2024 Photos from our September 2023 ramble in Rouffignac. 7km - undulating but nothing very steep.  The walk can be quite tough due to the uneven grassy paths in places.  Follows the GRP de Saintonge for about half its length Mixed surfaces but mainly off road on grassy tracks and paths through the forest. Quite a bit of shade but a tough walk on a hot day. Points of interest - The church in Rouffignac and the old cross.  Also some nice views over the countryside. Start point - in the centre of Rouffignac in the parking by the Mairie and Eglise Saint Christophe just off the D253E1 (road to Villexavier). Ensure your Sat Nav is set to Rouffignac in 17 dept Charente Maritime. Map and directions: Hand drawn map with digital text. Directions: 1. Leave the parking and turn left onto the D253E1 towards the Salle des Fetes and Ville Xavier.   Before the Salle des Fetes take the little footpath to the left and then climb up th...

Brie-sous-Mortagne and Floirac 7.3km Ramble

Image
Photos taken on our Brie / Floirac walk in October 2024. 7.3km Ramble - an up and down walk with nothing very steep but definitely some long up and down sections. (Thanks to Neil for this walk). It is possible to vary and shorten this route quite easily by looking at Google Maps. A mix of footpaths, tracks and small country roads.  A little shade but not a walk for the height of summer Points of interest - The views over the surrounding countryside and the church and churchyard at Floirac.  Also the local windmills. Start point - Parking for market at 15 Avenue de Royan, Brie-Sous-Mortagne, just off the D730 with the junction to Rue des Moulins.  Plenty of parking here. Lunch is possible nearby in La Taverne Charentaise (which is even open often on Mondays).   Photos taken on our Suzac walk in October 2024 Photos taken on our walk on this route in October 2023. 6.5km Ramble - Gently undulating walk with some steep steps up off Suzac Beach and some fallen trees to clamber over.  A really great and varied ramble. Largely off road  with some linking sections on small roads and a small stretch alongside the D25.  It is possible to lengthen the route should you wish and there are a number of ideas on the internet (search for Suzac Randonnée). A number of sections of this walk is in the shade. Beaches are open to dog walkers and their dogs from 1st October to 31st March.. Points of interest - The beach, the cliffs, the forest, the carrelets, the Fort de Suzac. Start point - Parking near La Crique Suzac Beach House, 119 Boulevard de Suzac (the D25), Meschers-sur-Gironde 17132.
